A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself.
The Golden Rule tells us to do unto others as we would have them do to us. Too often though we interpret this as do unto others as they have done to us.
We are taught to be kind from a young age but what we aren’t told is that there are positive effects from doing so. Obviously we don’t want to be kind simply because of the benefits of doing so. We’ve encountered these type of people before. We call them suck ups or worse. Some are just in it for business contacts.
Our true nature will always show through eventually. Our kindness will be shown for what it is, genuine or false. Our kindness will be remembered in ways that we won’t even anticipate. It can return to us in as simple a way as a smile when we are feeling down to a job offer from someone who recognizes the kind of person we are.
Cruelty will come back upon us just as well. Maybe it appears to get us ahead in the business world or that we get our way elsewhere but people won’t forget being talked over. Maybe they won’t seek revenge but they won’t go out of their way to help you later either. People will flock to kindness but avoid cruelty like the plague.
