1 Kings 8:23
“O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.
The concept of a covenant is almost lost in the world today. Many times our contracts aren’t worth the paper that they are printed on because they are cancelled or not upheld for various reasons.
Marriage is to be a covenant between two people and it is broken as often as it is kept in many parts of the world. So we don’t fully grasp the importance of a covenant today.
A covenant was an agreement between two parties that was not meant to be broken. There was no fine print or legal wording. What was stated was what it meant with no exceptions.
God has a covenant of love with us as He did with the Israelites. This covenant means that He will continue to love us regardless of the circumstances.
This was very different from the idols that others worshipped at the time. They were subject to whims and emotions just like humans (because they had been created in a human image.) These so called gods could change their minds and not uphold their end of the bargain (blessing, fertility, etc.) for no reason at all in the minds of those who worshipped them. The true lack of response was because the idols were simply images of wood and stone and not real gods but they were perceived to not respond due to any number of reasons where they could break their agreement.
God upholds His covenants however. What He has stated is true and He will never fail to follow through on His agreements.
